Understanding Common SASSA Status Check Results

When you check your SASSA status, you may encounter various status messages. Each status provides important information about your grant application or payment. Here are some of the most common results and what they mean:

SASSA Pending Status

If your application shows a “Pending” status, it means that your application is still under review by SASSA. This can happen for a few reasons, including verification processes, system backlogs, or waiting for necessary information.

What to do:

  • Your status will be updated once SASSA has completed the review.
  • If the delay is prolonged, you may need to contact SASSA for updates.

Declined SASSA Status

A “Declined” status means that your application was not approved for a grant. There can be several reasons for a decline, including missing documentation, ineligibility, or errors in your application details.

What to do:

  • Check the reason for the decline and rectify any issues.
  • You can appeal the SASSA decision if you believe the rejection was incorrect.

Alternative Income Source Identified

This is one of the common reasons for a declined application, as applicants must meet strict income eligibility requirements to receive assistance. Understanding why this status appears can help you take corrective steps or verify the information.

SASSA Status Approved But No Pay Date

When your application is approved but no pay date is shown, it means SASSA has approved you for a grant, but payment processing is still pending. This can happen due to various reasons, such as system delays or additional verification required for your payment.

In most cases, SASSA approves your grant with payment date but no money is received because you may need to update your banking details. Ensure your banking details are correct and recheck with the bank.

What to do:

  • Keep checking your status regularly for an updated pay date.
  • If the issue persists, consider contacting SASSA for clarification.

Identity Verification Failed Status

If your status reads “Identity Verification Failed,” it means that SASSA was unable to verify your identity through the Department of Home Affairs (DHA). This could be due to mismatched details, missing information, or issues with your data.

SASSA updated its system to counter scams and fraud and now requests beneficiaries to complete their biometric identity verification before making payments. Ensure you have completed SASSA identity verification.

What to do:

  • Resolve the issue by ensuring your details are correct and up-to-date with DHA.
  • You may need to visit SASSA or provide additional documentation to confirm your identity.
