Apply For SASSA Old Age Grant Online In 2025
SASSA Old Age Grant, previously called the Old Age Pension, offers money to South Africans who are 60 years and older.

Who Can Apply for the SASSA Old Age Grant
To be eligible for the SASSA Older Person Grant, applicants must fulfill certain requirements. Here’s what you should understand:
- You need to be at least 60 years old.
- Applicants must be citizens of South Africa, permanent residents, or refugees.
- You must reside in South Africa.
- You cannot get any other social grant for yourself.
- You cannot be living in a state-run facility.
- Qualify means test

Required Documents To Apply For Old Age Grant
- Identity Document (ID): If you don’t have one, you’ll need to complete an affidavit and provide a sworn statement from a reputable person verifying your name and age.
- Proof of Marital Status: Documents like a marriage certificate if applicable.
- Proof of Residence: Utility bills or a lease agreement showing your current address.
- Income and Asset Proof: Recent bank statements, proof of any pensions, and documentation of your assets, including property values.
- UIF Documentation: If previously employed, provide proof of your UIF membership or discharge certificate.
- Death Certificate or Will (if applicable): If your spouse passed away within the last five years, include relevant documents.

How to Apply for the SASSA Older Person Grant Online
- Go to the SASSA website at services.sassa.gov.za.
- If you don’t have an account, you will need to register. Click on registration and provide your personal details. A OTP will be sent your mobile number to complete registration. After registration, you will be able to access SASSA services.
- Click on “apply for a grant” and choose grant type for older persons.
- You will see the application form, fill out all the fields correctly as per your ID.
- Complete the form and SASSA generated affidavit by entering information in required fields. Click on continue to next step.
- You will be redirected to upload the supporting documents page. The website will list all the required documents and indicates which documents are outstanding to complete application.
- Click on submit documents button. You will receive SMS and email confirmation with an important reference number for future enquiries.
Note:
You can obtain and print SASSA generated affidavit and consent for bank payment forms from SASSA online services website.

You can also apply in person by visiting the SASSA office. If you can’t apply in person because of health problems, a family member can help you with a letter explaining your situation.
Your application may take up to 3 months to process. This period allows SASSA to thoroughly check all the information and documents you provided. How To See Application Status?
Login to SASSA online services website. On the Home page a table with all active applications is displayed. The table also shows the status of your application. SASSA also sends notifications for application status changes.
Why is my Application Rejected?
The main reasons for grant application rejection are
- Incomplete documents provided
- Incorrect filling application form
- Ineligible for the grant
- or there maybe mistake by SASSA, You have right to appeal.
When May Your Older Grant Be Stopped?
Your Old Age Grant may be suspended if:
- Your circumstances change, such as increased income or assets.
- You fail to cooperate during a scheduled review.
- Fraud or misrepresentation is detected in your application.
- There are administrative errors in the approval process.
When Will Your Old Age Grant Ends?
Your grant will lapse if:
- You pass away.
- You are admitted to a state institution for more than three months.
- You do not claim your grant for three consecutive months.
- You are absent from the country without notice.
